Seaside School Half Marathon and 5K A Winner
The 20th Annual Event Raises $700,000 for the Seaside School
The 20th Annual Seaside School Half Marathon and 5K race took place in Seaside, Florida on Sunday, February 20, 2022. The Seaside School Foundation reports that the Seaside School Race Weekend raised more than $700,000 to benefit The Seaside School, the oldest operating public charter school in the state of Florida. This year, 3,200 runners participated in the weekend events and 670 volunteers ensured a successful race weekend.
Highlights from the race weekend include 700 party-goers at the kick-off party Taste of the Race hosted by Tom Glavine, Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and former Atlanta Braves’ pitcher and the Corchis Family, owners of Amici 30A Italian Kitchen and Amigo’s 30A Mexican Kitchen. The evening featured music by Flo Tribe as fifteen local chefs competed for the top culinary awards. Wild Bill’s Beach Dogs won the coveted Chef’s Choice Award and the People’s Choice Award went to The Red Bar.
Zack Kennison with 98 Distillery served specialty cocktails made with their latest spirit, Dune Lakes vodka. The representative of the 3-year-old company was happy to put event-goers in good spirits, saying, “We are big believers in community and giving back to those who support us. We wanted to take part by offering our product, our time, and our passion to this event because we think community is a big part of what keeps an area growing and the folks who live there happy.”
Simon Smith, with Great Southern Cafe, was all smiles working the bar in the VIP area. “I always enjoy events like this,” he said. “It’s fun to have live entertainment, great food, and good people come together to help one another.”
The 2022 finish line after-party in Seaside featured live music by The Scott Rockwood Band, complimentary beer by Grayton Beer Company, and post-race food catered by Great Southern Cafe’s Chicken Shack.
