Field of Dreams
Charity golf event benefits Seaside School Foundation

Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Glavine, his wife Chris Glavine and the Seaside School Foundation, Inc., teamed up to host the second annual Tom Glavine’s Field of Dreams golf tournament.
The event, held Oct. 4 at Watersound Club’s Shark’s Tooth golf course in Panama City Beach, raised $125,000 to benefit the Seaside School Foundation.
“As new full-time residents of the area, we wanted to get more involved in our community,” said host Tom Glavine, who is a member of the Seaside School, Inc., board of directors. “We are humbled and overwhelmed by the continued support of the community. This year’s event was even more successful than last year, and we hope to raise the bar each year.”
This year’s tournament attracted 144 golfers and many corporate and local business sponsors. The funds will directly benefit the Seaside School, Inc., which is Florida’s oldest operating public charter school and was recently ranked the top combination charter school in the state.
The tournament’s winning foursome (gross score) was made up of Jamey Price, J.R. Holden, Mike Osborn and Jeff Roland. Suzy Stanley, Brian Widman, Bill Widman and Jim Babb with Porath & Associates were the net score winners.
Students representing the Seaside Neighborhood School golf team helped out at the event as volunteers.
This tournament was made possible by the generosity of its participants, and especially given the support of title sponsors the Watersound Club, Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty and Coastal Ridge Real Estate.
Golfers enjoyed delicious food prepared by Shark’s Tooth, and beverages donated by Lewis Bear Distributing, Buffalo Rock, Driftwood Wine & Spirits and Distillery 98. The winning teams took home a prizes including Skechers and Mizuno swag.
“We are incredibly grateful for our sponsors of all levels and players who made this event possible and whose generous contributions helped shatter all expectations for a second year in a row,” said Teresa Horton, executive director of the Seaside School Foundation, Inc. “Our special school is incredibly fortunate to have dedicated supporters like the Glavine family.”
After the tournament, players attended a reception held in the course’s clubhouse featuring a silent and live auction which showcased sports memorabilia. Signed balls and jerseys provided by the Atlanta Braves Foundation were hot-ticket items. The live auction featured four tickets to an Atlanta Braves game, hotel stay and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Braves’ new stadium. An additional live auction package was an exclusive golf getaway experience to Austin, Texas, at Austin Golf Club and Spanish Oaks, coupled with a luxurious stay at Hotel ZaZa.
