Art Month Walton County: A Season of Creativity, Connection, and Inspiration
More than 40 events transform Walton County into a vibrant coastal canvas this May.

For those behind the scenes at the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA), spring is more than a shift in season—it’s a sense of momentum, meaning, and memory woven together. As May unfolds into Art Month Walton County, the landscape transforms into a vibrant tapestry of creativity, where art isn’t just displayed—it’s lived, shared, and celebrated.
There’s something about this time of year. The light softens, the air warms, and the familiar rhythm of the Gulf returns. For many, it stirs nostalgia—memories of long beach days, creative beginnings, and the people who helped shape Walton County into what it is today. That spirit of legacy is deeply embedded in Art Month itself.
What began decades ago as a modest gathering of artists along a quiet stretch of Grayton Beach has grown into a dynamic, county-wide celebration of the arts. Visionaries and early advocates laid the groundwork more than three decades ago for what is now a thriving cultural ecosystem—one that continues to evolve while honoring its roots. Today, that legacy lives on through the artists, performers, writers, and creatives who bring Art Month to life each May.
Officially recognized by the Walton County Board of County Commissioners, Art Month stands as both a celebration and a testament—to the arts as a driving force for economic vitality, tourism, education, and quality of life. Led by the CAA with support from Visit South Walton, the initiative brings together more than 40 events spanning visual, literary, and performing arts.
For visitors, it’s an open invitation to experience Walton County in a way that goes beyond the beach—through creativity, connection, and discovery.
A Month of Must-See Moments
The celebration begins with the 38th Annual ArtsQuest Fine Arts Festival, a beloved, rain or shine, two-day event featuring more than 120 artists from across the country. Set in North Park at Grand Boulevard Town Center, ArtsQuest blends fine art, live music, and interactive experiences for all ages.
From there, the calendar unfolds with standout experiences including:
- Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach, where cutting-edge projection art transforms white walls into immersive works of light
- The Longleaf Writers Conference, welcoming acclaimed authors and emerging voices for a week of creative exchange
- Live theater like Mystic Pizza at the Emerald Coast Theatre Company and performances from Sinfonia Gulf Coast
- Story-driven gatherings hosted by Emerald Coast Storytellers
Art walks, gallery exhibitions, and pop-up events stretch from Grayton Beach to SEASIDE® and Rosemary Beach, creating a sense of discovery around every corner.
More Than an Event
What sets Art Month apart is its spirit of participation. This isn’t a spectator experience—it’s immersive, welcoming, and deeply community-driven.
You’ll find children painting alongside professional artists. Writers exchanging ideas over coffee. Musicians filling the evening air as families gather on the lawn. It’s a place where creativity becomes connection—and where visitors are welcomed not as spectators, but as part of the story.
