Fall Is the Season to Reset Your Skin, Emerald Coast Providers Say
Local dermatology providers say cooler months are the ideal time for chemical peels, restorative lasers, and a post-summer skin check

As summer gives way to fall along the Emerald Coast, skin care experts are encouraging residents across the Emerald Coast to shift their skin care focus from sun protection to repair, addressing the sun damage that builds up over months of beach days, boating, and time outdoors.
Dermatology Specialists of Florida & Aqua Medical Spa are highlighting two treatment categories this season: chemical peels and restorative laser treatments. Both tend to be especially effective in the cooler months, when reduced sun exposure lowers the risk of complications, such as new discoloration, that can occur when skin is treated during peak summer sun.
“Fall is really the ideal season to treat sun damage,” says Kristi Wells, PA-C, of Dermatology Specialists of Florida’s Santa Rosa Beach office. “Because patients aren’t spending as much time in direct sunlight, their skin can heal properly without the same risk of new pigment issues. It’s the perfect window to start reversing some of what summer left behind.”
Chemical peels work by removing damaged outer layers of skin, encouraging cell turnover and revealing smoother, more even-toned skin underneath. They can help address concerns such as sunspots, uneven texture, and fine lines that often become more noticeable after a summer spent outdoors. Restorative laser treatments target deeper layers of the skin to stimulate collagen production, improving tone and texture over time.
“These treatments really complement each other,” Wells says. “A peel can refresh the surface, while a laser treatment works on what’s happening underneath. Fall gives patients enough time to do both before the holidays, when everyone wants their skin looking its best.”
Their providers also point to fall as an important time to schedule an annual skin cancer screening. After months of increased sun exposure, early fall is an especially good window to check for new or changing spots, moles, or lesions. “
After a summer outdoors, we always encourage patients to come in for a full skin check,” Wells says. “Early detection makes such a difference, and it’s an easy appointment to pair with any other fall skin care plans.”
Dermatology Specialists of Florida has 15 locations across Northwest Florida, six of which include an Aqua Medical Spa, offering both medical and cosmetic dermatology services to the region. Those interested in learning more about laser treatments, chemical peels, or other post-sun treatments are encouraged to schedule a consultation and ask about current fall specials.
