Building Futures on the Fairway: Tom Glavine’s Field of Dreams Golf Outing Raises $200,000 for Education in Walton County

The crisp October air and the sound of drives cutting across emerald fairways set the stage for more than just a golf tournament—it was a day that combined sport, philanthropy, and community purpose in perfect harmony. On Monday, October 13, 2025, the 5th Annual Tom Glavine’s Field of Dreams Golf Outing took over Camp Creek Golf Course in Inlet Beach, bringing together local leaders, sponsors, and supporters to raise an outstanding $200,000 in support of the Seacoast Collegiate High School and Northwest Florida State College South Walton Center.
Hosted by MLB Hall of Famer Tom Glavine and joined by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the outing was more than a day on the greens—it was a demonstration of how a community united around a shared vision can drive real, lasting impact. Each swing of the club represented something greater: expanded opportunities for students, enhanced workforce development, and a stronger future for Walton County.
“I’ve always believed sports have the power to bring people together for something bigger,” said Tom Glavine. “This event does exactly that. The support raised here today directly helps young people in our community gain the skills, education, and confidence they need to build successful futures right here at home.”
Where Purpose Meets Play
The excitement of the day could be felt across Camp Creek Golf Course—a Watersound Club destination renowned for its undulating fairways, coastal dunes, and Audubon-certified sanctuary setting. Golfers teed off with friendly rivalry and philanthropic spirit, all knowing that every putt, every drive, and every raffle ticket would contribute to a transformative cause.
Among the day’s winners were Jamey Price, JR Holden, John Davenport, and Jeff Roland, who took home first place in the Gross Results category. McKenzie Burleigh, Kristy Holditch, Arlease Ciatto, and Kevin Rosa earned first place in the Net Results, while Miranda Corchis and Peyton Glavine claimed the Longest Drive titles. Courtney Fields and David Kapitanoff took home Closest to the Pin honors, and McKenzie Burleigh added another win by drawing the lucky 50/50 raffle ticket.
But the true victory of the day was measured not in scorecards—but in the $200,000 raised to fuel one of the most forward-thinking education initiatives in Northwest Florida.
A Game-Changer for Education in Walton County
The funds raised from the Field of Dreams Golf Outing directly benefit the South Walton Center, a multi-million-dollar collaboration between Seacoast Collegiate High School and Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC). The project represents a first-of-its-kind partnership in South Walton, designed to bridge the gap between high school and higher education, while meeting the workforce needs of a rapidly growing region.
The South Walton Center brings together dual enrollment programs, college degree pathways, and workforce training opportunities—all on one shared campus. For students, this means seamless access to advanced coursework and college credits. For adult learners, it offers professional development programs that align with the area’s evolving industries—from healthcare and education to business, construction, and tourism.
This fall marked a major milestone for the project, with the official opening of both the new Seacoast Collegiate High School building and the Northwest Florida State College building. Together, these two facilities form a cutting-edge learning environment that connects classroom instruction to real-world application. The future Community Building, now in development, will add even more value—serving as a hub for continuing education, community events, and workforce partnerships.
“This project is a defining step forward for Seacoast Collegiate High School and for Walton County as a whole,” said Dr. Tom Miller, Executive Director of SEASIDE SCHOOL™. “By uniting high school and college education on one campus, we’re giving students a direct pathway from learning to career readiness. It’s a model that not only transforms education but strengthens the workforce, supports local families, and elevates our entire community.”
A Vision Fueled by Community Support
Behind the success of the outing and the project it supports is a deep sense of collaboration. Sponsors, business partners, and volunteers came together to make the day possible—from Wharton-Smith, the event’s Title Sponsor, to Watersound Club and Camp Creek Golf Course, who hosted the outing with impeccable hospitality.
Callie Cox, Director of Advancement and Donor Relations for the SEASIDE SCHOOL FOUNDATION™, believes the event’s success is a reflection of the region’s shared commitment to education. “The success of this year’s Field of Dreams Golf Outing demonstrates just how much our community believes in investing in the future,” Cox said. “The funds raised will expand access to advanced coursework, technology, and professional development—ensuring that every student, no matter their background, has the opportunity to succeed.”
As the sun set over the 18th hole, the smiles, handshakes, and laughter of the day gave way to a sense of pride—knowing that the impact of this event will stretch far beyond the fairways of Camp Creek.
Tom Glavine’s Field of Dreams Golf Outing wasn’t just a tournament. It was a testament to what’s possible when sport, community, and education come together with a shared purpose: building brighter futures, one swing at a time.
