Micromanaging With Microneedling
Dermatology Specialists of Florida gives the 411 on revolutionary treatment

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne, scarring and pigmentation. Through this treatment, the aestheticians of Dermatology Specialists and Aqua Medical Spa can help you micromanage your skin’s wants and needs.
The process begins by meeting with an aesthetician to discuss skin concerns and goals. Once candidacy is determined, the aestheticians of Aqua Medical Spa use the SkinPen, a microneedling tool that stimulates the body to produce collagen and elastin to heal the area and improve textural irregularities.
While microneedling is most commonly used on the face, it can also be used elsewhere on the body to treat scarring and stretch marks.
During the treatment, tiny sterile needles glide across the skin, puncturing the top layer and activating the skin’s natural healing process. This healing process leaves the skin looking rejuvenated and renewed with noticeable results within 24 hours, whether decreasing pore size, tightening the skin or reducing dark spots and pigmentation.
For those who may have a hesitancy towards needles, it’s important to note that microneedling is FDA-cleared using sterile needles. Additionally, a numbing gel is applied so pain is not experienced from the treatment.
Following the treatment, patients may experience some redness that will begin to heal within days, revealing results. Brianna Morfesi, an aesthetician with Aqua Medical Spa of Fort Walton Beach, suggests that patients pursue microneedling in cooler seasons like fall and winter because sun exposure should be avoided after the treatment.
This treatment can be performed on most people, except those with active infections or who are using topical acne medications.
For optimal results, it’s suggested that most patients get three or four treatments spaced out every four to five weeks.
Morfesi notes that microneedling can be paired with other treatments such as chemical peels, Botox, Diamond Glow facials or laser treatments for increased and optimal results.
“I love to listen to patient concerns and be able to create a great experience where they feel and look good in their skin,” Morfesi said.
