Golfing for a Good Cause
The third annual Tom Glavine's Field of Dreams Golf Tournament raised over $150,000 for The Seaside School, Inc.

Oct. 3 proved to be a glorious day for golfing. The sun and spirits were high as golfers, educators, students and community members came together at WaterSound Club’s Shark’s Tooth Golf Club for a day of sport and service in support of The Seaside Neighborhood School and Seacoast Collegiate High School.
2023 marked the third iteration of the Tom Glavine’s Field of Dreams Charity Golf Tournament created and hosted by baseball Hall of Famer for the Braves and the Mets, Tom Glavine and his wife Christine. As a former board member of Seaside School, Glavine wanted to create a philanthropic event whose funds supported the Seaside School, Inc. encompassing Seaside Neighborhood School and Seacoast Collegiate High School.
The funds raised from the tournament directly benefit the schools by furthering their mission to provide high-quality education and support to students in the Walton County community.
This year, the over $150,000 raised is even more appreciated as the Seaside School, Inc., has embarked on an expansion of the Seacoast Collegiate High School in partnership with Northwest Florida State College.
This project addresses a critical need for accessible and high-quality higher education options in Walton County. Through the establishment of a dual enrollment and workforce development center and the expansion of Northwest Florida State College’s satellite campus, the expansion will provide a comprehensive educational experience for high school students, setting them on a path to lifelong success.
As a multimillion-dollar endeavor, the school’s new home will hold a dual-enrollment center and “The Accelerator” offering training, mentoring and collaboration with area entrepreneurs. During school hours, the space will serve students, but after hours and on weekends, the space will operate as a community event space.
Teresa Horton, Executive Director of the Seaside School Foundation, expressed her heartfelt gratitude, stating, “We are profoundly grateful for the unwavering commitment and incredible generosity of Tom and Chris Glavine. Their role as hosts and their generous contributions have been instrumental in our journey to achieve our fundraising goals. Their dedication to education and our community has left an indelible mark, paving the way for a brighter future for Walton County’s students.”
Horton noted that the event was first-class thanks to WaterSound Club’s attention to detail from the dining to the speed of play throughout the day. Golfers enjoyed swag from notable brands including Johnnie-O, Sketchers and Mizuno.
High school students helped facilitate the day, and two students from the golf team even participated in the event, serving as a reminder of what the day was all about.
“This tournament has been a game changer for our foundation to impact the community in a positive way by providing an environment where students can receive quality, excellent schooling that has changed the local landscape of education,” said Horton.
