Emerald Coast Theatre Company Stages Fun, ’80s Style

Everything in the ’80s felt big. The era that ushered in MTV, mullet cuts and Muppet babies made its unmistakable mark on the fashion world, too. (Just ask Madonna!) And like the moonwalk that also debuted during this decadent decade, big ’80s trends are back — and Emerald Coast Theatre Company — the non-profit professional theater company based in Miramar Beach, Florida — is getting in on the action by staging its first-ever ’80s-themed “fun-raiser.”

“We all know ‘girls just want to have fun,’ so we invite all the gals out there to grab your guy, tight-roll your best acid-washed jeans and ‘walk like an Egyptian’ to Emerald Coast Theatre Company’s awesome ’80s Rewind Dance Party fundraiser,” said Lorraine Christen, event co-chair and founder/owner of Rise Dance Center in Destin. Denise Fountain, of Beachy Beach 30A Real Estate, is also co-chairing the event.

Be sure to bunch that big ’80s hair in a scrunchie and lasso on that bolo tie, because the best-dressed partier will win a prize for the “Most Choice” outfit. And you won’t have to “fight for your right to party” too hard, because live music is by the Shenanigans Show Band, which is known as “the world’s most persistent ’80s and ’90s cover band.” 

“What a fun way to end our successful 2016-17 season!” said the ECTC’s producing artistic director, Nathanael Fisher. “We are grateful to everyone for making this fun spring fundraiser possible. The performing arts is all about expression. … I hope to see everyone break it down on the dance floor!”

The dance party will be held on April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in ECTC’s performing space, located at 560 Grand Boulevard (Upstairs) in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin in Miramar Beach. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Proceeds from the ticket sales, cash bar and silent auction will benefit Emerald Coast Theatre Company, a 501(c)(3) founded in 2012 by Nathanael and Anna Fisher with a mission is to enrich and entertain the Emerald Coast community through professional and educational theater. 

Creative ticket package sponsorships are available. The Party Animal package is $500 and includes six tickets to the party, logo placement on flyers/poster, social recognition, logo in ECTC’s e-newsletter and logo on event signage. The Smooth Operator package is $300 and includes four tickets to the party, social recognition, logo in ECTC’s e-newsletter and logo on event signage.
