The Dawson Group Acquires Three 30A Seafood Restaurants
Locally owned restaurant group adds Stinky’s Fish Camp, Stinky’s Bait Shack, and Red Fish Taco to its portfolio
The Dawson Group reels in a big catch, acquiring three iconic South Walton dining gems: Stinky’s Fish Camp, Stinky’s Bait Shack, and Red Fish Taco. This marks a flavorful transition, as the popular 30A staple dining brands pass from Jim Richard of Word of Mouth Restaurant Group to the locally celebrated restaurateurs. Clark and Ashley Beecher, owners of The Dawson Group, are no strangers to operating successful eateries along the Emerald Coast. Their current portfolio includes Seaside favorites such as Dawson’s Yogurt, It’s Heavenly Shortcakes and Ice Cream, Pickle’s, The Shrimp Shack, and Wild Bill’s Beach Dogs. Recent expansions include Pickle’s Sandbar and The Shrimp Shack Boardwalk Bar, bringing their total to nine food and beverage establishments along the iconic stretch of 30A.
“While our current restaurants are centered in Seaside, we are thrilled to expand into the West end of 30A,” said Ashley Beecher.

In partnership with Baron and Courtney Fields, the Beechers plan to honor the legacy of Richard’s beloved establishments while introducing modern updates and innovative concepts. Their vision includes maintaining cherished traditions like live music and community engagement while elevating the dining experience with fresh menu ideas, enhanced systems, and creative design updates.
“We understand the importance of tradition and what these restaurants mean to the community,” said Courtney Fields. “Our goal is to continue Jim’s legacy while enhancing these spaces with innovations that have proven successful in our other locations.”
The Dawson Group has ambitious plans for its new ventures. Stinky’s Bait Shack will expand its breakfast offerings and debut a new lunch and dinner concept by 2026. Signature events like the Swamp Writer Music Festival (Jan. 15–19, 2025) and the Sand Up Comedy Festival, benefiting the SOWAL Foundation, will continue to anchor the Bait Shack’s lively programming. At Red Fish Taco, renovations by Tracery Interiors will bring a refreshed look to the space, while Tex-Mex-inspired menu items will complement its signature seafood and margaritas.

At Stinky’s Fish Camp, beloved classics like the Oyster Log and beignets will remain on the menu, alongside new seasonal offerings. The Dawson Group will also participate in prominent local events, including the 30A Songwriters Festival and the Seaside School’s Annual Taste of Race.
“This transition is a milestone for the 30A community,” said Beecher. “It is an honor to continue these traditions and carry forward the legacy of these beloved establishments.”
