If you frequent restaurants, bars and local music venues of South Walton, you’ve likely experienced Harrison Prentice’s voice live. On Aug. 15, 2024, no matter your location, you’ll be able to stream Prentice’s debut single God Bless the Rest on all music platforms.

Since the age of four, a guitar has never been far from Prentice’s hands. What began as learning his favorite songs on guitar, progressed into writing his own music. Studying music, he attended both Louisiana State University and the University of Colorado, but he found himself working a variety of jobs that left him unfulfilled.

In 2020, Prentice and his wife were living in Texas. A creative block and mental rut left him craving change, and the couple decided to relocate to Seaside, a place they had long loved.

Prentice credits the move as the best decision of his life. He not only regained inspiration, but also began playing shows throughout 30A and gaining valuable music connections. He quickly realized that the region has many ties to Nashville with everyone from country superstars to songwriters to producers that have homes in or visit the Emerald Coast.

It’s this connection to Music City that led him to recording his first single, God Bless the Rest, at a studio in Nashville. Over a period of a few days, Prentice selected an eight-piece band of session players to record four single tracks that will eventually be released as part of an EP. God Bless the Rest will be the first to be heard by listeners.

“I love stringed instruments — banjo, fiddle, mandolin — so it was important to me to have those instruments on this track,” Prentice said. “The song molds together the roots of all kinds of genres to create my very own sound that is unique to me. I want to make music that is real and raw, but polished at the same time.”

Prentice says that God Bless the Rest is his favorite song he’s ever written, crediting the track’s sound, which contains Rocky Mountain influences along with the lyrics that are reflective of moments that have shaped him into who he is.

While he’s cultivated his own style, Prentice gravitates toward country, Americana and folk music for inspiration, citing artists such as Zach Bryan, Turnpike Troubadours, Koe Wetzel, Peter Frampton and Stevie Ray Vaughan as guides.

As a local artist who hopes to one day gain a national presence, Prentice says the best thing for his career is for fans to stream his song and attend his shows.

“Streaming my music makes all the difference, but shaking hands and getting to meet listeners in person means even more,” said Prentice. “This was something I grew up dreaming about that became a reality, that I’ve put my heart and soul into. It’s an emotional experience to get to share my music with the world.”
