In August 2019, our 2nd Tuesday Parkinson’s Support Group began meeting every month at the Beach Chamber, 309 R. Jackson Blvd, PCB with Dementia Family Pathways hosting our event. Prior to COVID 19, we met in-person every 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Beach Chamber. During COVID 19, we have been using Zoom to stay connected. Beginning June 2020, there will be limited space to meet in-person at the Beach Chamber due to social distancing.
Our Parkinson’s Support Group meetings are free and open to the public. When we were able to meet in-person, refreshments were provided by The Blake at Panama City Beach. There is a guest speaker each month who discusses Parkinson’s-specific topics, resources, activities, exercise programs, medications, and more. Dr. Tara Kimbason, a Neurologist and Movement Specialist from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital has been our guest speaker several times since last August and she was our Keynote Speaker for our 1st annual Parkinson’s Wellness Expo 11/12/19.
We use the Parkinson’s Care Program to provide people who are living with Parkinson’s disease with strategies to manage their motor and non-motor symptoms during activities of daily living. The people who are living with Parkinson’s disease that attend have common interests, challenges, and concerns. During our Parkinson’s Support Group meetings, most of our time is spent learning about the life experiences of people living with PD and problem solving solutions.
